West Ham are ‘keeping tabs’ on Rangers defender Connor Goldson ahead of the summer transfer window, according to a report from Football Insider.
The 28-year-old centre-back is approaching the final 12 months of his deal at Ibrox and reports have suggested that talks of a contract extension have been put on hold.
Goldson has been an integral part of Steven Gerrard’s side this season as the ‘Gers stampede towards the Scottish Premiership title. Appearing in all 30 of his team’s league games this season, the manager dubbed his centre-back an ‘absolute warrior’ this week as his goalscoring ace stood up in the 4-3 Europa League win over Royal Antwerp.
The Hammers were previously credited with an interest in the former Brighton man before landing Craig Dawson on loan for the duration of this season.
David Moyes is expected to try and sign another defender in the summer as he looks to further strengthen his options, although they could face competition from Leeds, Fulham and West Brom for Goldson’s signature.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
Goldson would present a relatively affordable option for the Hammers to bolster their defensive ranks, but with barely any Premier League experience under his belt, he could be a risky choice.
Whilst there’s no doubt that the Wolverhampton-born defender has been a revelation north of the border, for where West Ham want to be, signing a defender of his ilk may not appease the club’s ambitions.
