West Ham are looking to make Craig Dawson’s loan from Watford a permanent deal in the coming months, according to Football Insider.
The Hammers signed Dawson last October and the defender had to be patient in waiting for his chance whilst Angelo Ogbonna and Fabian Balbuena performed admirably.
However, the 30-year-old has seized his opportunity with a string of outstanding displays and has made himself an integral part of David Moyes’ side, starting the last 10 Premier League matches. Last month, he was hailed by West Ham first team coach Stuart Pearce as “such a professional, an incredible kid and a pleasure to work with”.
Those performances have lead to calls to sign the centre-back on a permanent basis, and Football Insider claimed that Watford were willing to sell for £3m in January. The Irons stopped short of completing the deal at that point but could look to tie down the experienced Rochdale-born defender soon.

Given how the first two months went for Dawson at the London Stadium, few would have foreseen his stay being made into a permanent one.
Whether he is the long-term answer to Moyes’ defensive conundrum remains to be seen, but as a short-term fix for the rest of this term and next season, it seems a no-brainer.
The mooted fee is so reasonable that it would leave the Hammers with scope to sign an additional option, with Winston Reid likely to leave on a permanent basis this summer.
