West Ham may have been handed a lifeline in their pursuit of Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri as the La Liga side reportedly target a replacement for the Moroccan.
This comes from Spanish publication Estadio Deportivo, who claimed that Sevilla are looking to land AZ Alkmaar striker Myron Boadu this summer as they prepare themselves for ‘succulent’ offers for En-Nesyri.
David Moyes was believed to have earmarked the 23-year-old as his top target in January as the Hammers saw a £27m bid rejected by the Europa League holders.
The 35-cap Morocco ace has been a major factor in Sevilla’s Champions League charge this season his 17 goals making him the team’s top scorer and mixing with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez in the La Liga Golden Boot standings.
Boadu, a 20-year-old Dutch under-21 international who has impressed for his nation, has enjoyed a rather less productive return and has six league goals this season.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
Whilst it is plausible that Sevilla could be simply looking to strengthen their squad as they aim for the Champions League and have no intention of selling En-Nesyri, it could also be with a view to preparing for his departure.
In January, Sevilla held off the Irons’ advances in search of a fee in the region of £35m, demands from which the east Londoners shied away. With hindsight, perhaps the additional £8m might have been worth parting with given the dearth of centre-forward options at West Ham.
Although this won’t solve the immediate issues faced by Moyes, Sevilla’s hunt for a potential replacement may focus the minds of the Hammers’ hierarchy to the possibility of a major summer transfer.
