West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek has been tipped to attract interest from some of the perceived major players in the Premier League by his former Slavia Prague coach Dusan Uhrin Jr.
The Czech star, who has been a revelation for the Hammers since his arrival in east London just over a year ago, was said to be on the radar of Bayern Munich recently.
However, when asked whether the 25-year-old could take further steps in his career, Uhrin told BBC Sport that he doesn’t expect the German giants to swoop, saying: ”He is constantly improving, so why not? Who scores eight goals from his position? I wouldn’t expect a transfer to Bayern, but rather a team in England.”
Uhrin, who managed Slavia between June 2015 and August 2016, also said that Soucek ‘didn’t have good passing’ during the early days of his career, which might have been a factor as to why many coaches didn’t want him.
So far this season, the Czech Republic international has eight Premier League goals – making him the Irons’ top scorer in the division – and has earned an average match rating of 7.23 with Sofascore.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
Perhaps in previous incarnations of top-performing West Ham players attracting interest from elsewhere, fear may have already set in among some Irons fans.
However, as has been proven in the stubbornness required to fend off interest in Declan Rice, perhaps the club are now less conducive to giving in to the first offer which may come along.
Ultimately, players like Soucek and indeed Rice will want, and in many ways deserve, to be playing at the elite level, making European qualification all the more important for the Hammers if they want to attract new quality as well as hold on to existing prize assets.
Based on current form, it seems like that should West Ham drift away over the rest of the season, clubs will come knocking for the Czech Republic ace, as Uhrin has hinted.
