West Ham defender Winston Reid has joined Brentford on loan until the end of the season as reported by the club’s official website.
The 32-year-old will link up with the Championship club who are looking to earn promotion to the top-flight this term.
A vastly experienced centre-back, Reid has been a superb servant to the Hammers making over 200 appearances or the club before injury stopped him from being a West Ham regular.
The New Zealand international spent part of last year on loan in the MLS with Sporting Kansas City and will hope to spend a positive second half of the season on loan with the Bees before returning to fight for his place in David Moyes’ squad.
Brentford currently sit third in the second tier and will be looking to gain promotion having missed out in the playoff final last season.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
Reid wasn’t likely to find himself in Moyes’ selection picture anytime soon with fur centre-backs clearly ahead of him in the pecking order.
The experienced Kiwi’s departure perhaps brings an end to speculation of further defensive outgoings today as Moyes wouldn’t want to weaken his numbers drastically.
Who knows, with no mention of an obligation to buy, a strong end to the campaign and helping Brenntof to the Premier League, we could either see Reid back in claret and blue or lining up against the Irons next term.
