West Ham are among a host of clubs to have made an offer for Rochdale starlet Kwadwo Baah, according to a report from The Athletic.
The Hammers are keeping illustrious company in the pursuit of the 18-year-old, with a clutch of Europe’s elite clubs including Juventus, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Rangers all keen on the teenager.
Born in Germany but qualified to play for England, the winger – who can play on either flank and also as a striker – has been catching the eye in League One this season, contributing directly to five goals in 13 appearances.
Despite the interest from elsewhere, the Irons could well hold an advantage in the race for Baah’s signature as David Moyes managed current Rochdale boss Brian Barry-Murphy during his time at Preston North End, so there is already an existing working relationship between the pair.
Previously, Barry-Murphy has hailed the winger as a ‘special talent’ as he signed his first professional contract with the Lancashire club.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
This signing would be in keeping with the apparent shift in modus operandi under Moyes to sign young, talented players who can come good in the future.
The idea of West Ham beating some of the clubs credited with an interest in any transfer race would previously have seemed unthinkable, but on this occasion, the Hammers may just be frontrunners.
Baah has already begun to make his mark at senior level and goals like the one against Charlton Athletic earlier this season are sure to excite the Irons faithful.
Racking up some of the most talented teenagers in Britain should stand the club in good stead, whether they go on to be successful for West Ham directly or earn a large profit in the future.
