As West Ham increasingly look like dark horses for a European spot after their 3-2 win over Crystal Palace, manager David Moyes looks set to extend his stay at the London Stadium for the long run – but he also has 18 months left to run on his current deal in principle.
According to The Mirror, the previous belief was that Moyes only had six months left to run on his current deal. However, that is not the case; the manager will automatically see an extension clause activated if West Ham stay up this season.
With the Hammers in fourth place in the league after their win over the Eagles, that ‘if’ is looking increasingly certain to be a ‘when’.
Moyes has plenty of time left ahead of him in theory, giving ample room for forward-thinking planning from the Hammers hierarchy. Indeed, West Ham have now achieved six victories in competitive games in a single calendar year for the first time in the club’s history.
The Mirror added that a priority for Moyes is a mandate from the West Ham board to transform perceptions of club in the short- to medium-term. It is unclear as to what this entails, but it presumably involves forging West Ham into serious contenders for European football on a regular basis.

Being able to plan for a future with Moyes provides a backdrop of stability for West Ham, especially going into future transfer windows.
Moyes’ tactics, philosophy and preferences should hold down meaning throughout club departments, and this offers a solid foundation for renewed success – maybe even European success if their current form can continue over the long run.
