Former Premier League striker Kevin Campbell has given his backing to West Ham‘s rumoured interest in Blackburn Rovers marksman Adam Armstrong.
Speaking to Football Insider, Campbell said that, whilst the 23-year-old would cost ‘big money’ to sign this month, he would make a ‘great addition’ to the Hammers ranks. He explained:
If you bring another striker in for big money, he will have to be able to play another position. You would not spend big money to have a player warm the bench.
Michail Antonio has been their star man and when he is not there they struggle at times. He causes defences a lot of problems with his pace and power.
Armstrong could be a great addition but he is very different from Antonio. They need somebody who can be an understudy type.
Campbell’s comments stem from a claim made by a highly-regarded source with the inside track on the Irons, ExWHUemployee, on his West Ham Way podcast, during which it was suggested David Moyes could make a move for the Championship’s joint-top scorer.
There has been plenty of interest from across the Premier League in the man described as ‘dynamic’ by Blackburn manager Tony Mowbray after his excellent start to the season.

Signing Armstrong would present little risk in terms of output based on the former Newcastle youngster’s current numbers.
However, with a £30m price tag and the likelihood of Moyes having to change the system to incorporate the 23-year-old, this doesn’t seem a sensible deal at the moment.
Armstrong wouldn’t be willing to patiently wait his turn for game-time at the London Stadium, having become a star at Blackburn whilst Antonio excels for the Irons.
