West Ham have been linked with a move for Brentford full-back Rico Henry and ex-Premier League striker Kevin Phillips has fully endorsed the move.
After a report from The Athletic linked the Hammers with a January move for the 23-year-old, Phillips, a former Premier League golden boot winner has told Football Insider of his surprise that the Englishman isn’t already in the top flight.
”I’m surprised he’s one of those that didn’t go when Benrahma went and Ollie Watkins went after their promotion push last season. He’s one of their better players as well. It wouldn’t surprise me if he did go, he’s one of their better players, attacking-wise, sometimes I think he’s that quick he can make up for some of the errors.”
Henry has been a mainstay over the west London side’s back to back promotion pushes, including 21 Championship outings this season already.
Phillips went on to compare the former Walsall man to Manchester City star Kyle Walker, citing the comparative pace as an attribute that often bails both men out after a mistake. Something that the 47-year-old claimed the Brentford man ‘does have in him’.
The Hammers would have to potentially stave off the interests of Aston Villa who are long-term admirers of the £4.05m rated left-back.

Henry is the latest man touted as the replacement for the durable Aaron Cresswell.
Finding a mistake leading to a goal by Henry proved to a fruitless task, merely two errors leading to shots over the last two and a quarter seasons – maybe because his pace saved the day.
Regardless, his stats are extremely impressive and David Moyes should look no further for his Cresswell understudy.
