Former Premier League Striker Spots Hunger In Sebastien Haller

Former Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor has praised West Ham striker Sebastien Haller on Twitter after his stunning winning goal on Sunday against Sheffield United.

Agbonlahor, who scored 74 Premier League goals during his career and now works as a pundit for Sky Sports and talkSPORT, praised the reaction of Haller on the weekend and compared it with his own tribulations.

The 34-year-old tweeted: ”That’s a reaction of someone who wants to start when Antonio is fit and not just second choice I’ve been there.”

Haller had been struggling to fill the void left by the injured Michail Antonio, but after scoring on international duty, the 26-year-old looked rejuvenated at Bramall Lane, topping off his performance with the decisive goal.

Sunday’s strike was Haller’s second Premier League goal of the season and, with Antonio on the verge of a return to fitness, the former Eintracht Frankfurt man may not have done enough to hold down his place as the focal point of the attack.

With the Hammers not in action until Monday night when they welcome Aston Villa to London Stadium, there is every chance Antonio will be fit and ready to go after a few more days back in training.

David Moyes has already successfully tweaked his system this season by moving to a 5-2-3 with Antonio or Haller supported by two wide men, so it’s unlikely the Irons manager would revert to two starting centre-forwards any time soon.

Unfortunately for Haller, this means the Ivorian may have to wait once more for his opportunity to have a run of games from the start as Antonio is a shoo-in once fit given his form throughout 2020.
