With the transfer deadlines now passed, albeit with a final day rollercoaster ride for the Hammers as the club sealed the arrival of Said Benrahma from Brentford, transfer attention has already turned to the January window.
The rumour mill has already kicked into gear with the window a little over two months away, and West Ham have been amongst those mentioned with moves for some big names.
Hammers concluded their summer business with Benrahma after confirming Craig Dawson, Vladimir Coufal and the permanent deal for Tomas Soucek.
One major blot on the landscape was the departure of Grady Diangana to West Brom, many West Ham fans summer business at the sale of a talent who had come through the ranks at the club.
One name that continues to be linked with a move to the London Stadium is Bournemouth striker Josh King, the 28-year-old was reportedly desperate to leave the club in the summer and could be in line for a winter switch.
Another renewed interest could be a move for Manchester United centre-back Phil Jones. David Moyes was believed to be interested in bringing one of his former players to East London early in the summer, however, the £20m price tag may put the Scottish manager off. Perhaps understandably when he is valued at just £5.4m by Transfermarkt.
One continental name who the Hammers reportedly attempted to bring in during the final hours of the summer and could now be set for a January bid is Mohamed Simakan.
L’equipe reported the Hammers failed with a late £15.5m bid for the Strasbourg central defender, who has attracted plenty of admirers with his performances in Ligue 1. Moyes could well face Premier League competition with Burney also interested in the 20-year-old Frenchman.
READ WEST HAM VERDICT
All three names linked with January interest provide viable options and would all be worthy of further exploration.
King is a proven Premier League goalscorer and is keen to leave his current club, and with just months remaining on his contract, would likely provide an affordable option.
Although Phil Jones has seen little to no top-flight action in recent months, partly down to injury. Still just 28 years old, the versatile defender has bags of experience and would provide valuable cover across numerous positions in the squad.
The most exciting of all the links is Simaken, a prospect who has already made plenty of strides into senior football. Moyes solved the defensive crisis in the short term in signing Dawson from Watford, although with that deal expiring at the end of the season, there is certainly a case for bolstering the options with a younger model.
