West Ham United have comfortably secured their place in the Carabao Cup Third Round with a 2-0 triumph against Newport County at Rodney Parade.
The night got off to a negative start, despite West Ham playing with their tails up, as Michail Antonio pulled up with looked to be a hamstring problem just five minutes in. Felipe Anderson replaced him.
Nerves were settled right before the break though, as Jack Wilshere profited from a defensive error after his own misplaced pass to stride through on goal and stroke home his first goal for the club.
Pablo Fornals should have doubled the visitors’ lead immediately after, but did so on 65 minutes following great work down the left and a pinpoint pass across goal from Anderson, leaving the Spaniard to tap in his inaugural goal.
It was smooth sailing from there for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, who will find out their third-round opponents tomorrow night.
So two players bagging their first goals for the club is certainly headline-worthy, but did anyone else catch your eye?
