Maxi Gomez’s talks with Valencia have broken down, acting as a potential boost to West Ham.
Local Spanish media report that the Celta Vigo forward is now unlikely to move to their La Liga rivals.
That is due to the low valuation of Santi Mina, who was believed to be part of the deal.
West Ham have been linked with signing Gomez this summer, with a £25million bid thought to have been rejected.
The Uruguayan’s representatives want assurances that he would be a regular under Manuel Pellegrini, rather than backup to Marko Arnautovic.
That is unlikely to be the case, given Gomez’s pedigree, having scored 13 goals in 34 appearances last season.
It is still too soon to gauge where the 22-year-old’s future lies, but this latest development can only be a positive for West Ham.
If they end up getting a deal over the line, it would be a great coup ahead of the new campaign.
