West Ham United U23 star Mesaque Dju has been named in the 2019 Golden Boy award shortlist alongside some of the biggest prospects in European football.
Dju joins the likes of Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt, Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and Benfica’s Joao Felix in the 100-man shortlist ahead of the award ceremony in October.
Previous winners of the award include Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi, Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe and leading Manchester United and England goalscorer Wayne Rooney.
Since arriving in London from Benfica in January, Dju featured in six U23 games, scoring one goal in 183 minutes of football. He’s an all-out winger who can play on either side of the attack and is deemed a huge prospect.
Dju has represented Portugal at every age level from the U16s to the U20s and was at Benfica since 2009 before moving to the London Stadium.
Aged 20, he’s expected to play a pivotal role in the U23s’ 2019-20 campaign as he continues to adapt to the English game, but many aren’t expecting to wait long until he makes his mark on the first team.
