Manuel Pellegrini has called for greater consistency at West Ham United ahead of the clash against relegation-doomed Huddersfield Town this afternoon.
The Hammers kicked off March with a confident 2-0 win against Newcastle United at the London Stadium but were dismally beaten at Cardiff City by the same scoreline last weekend.
That result meant West Ham have won 11 and lost 13 from 30 Premier League games this season, highlighting the clubs inconsistent form, but Pellegrini has revealed they’re trying to iron out the issue.
We are trying to improve our squad, we are going to try to improve the way we play, our mentality, our ambitious minds. When you play against big teams you can demonstrate that you are able to do it. After that, you must be a solid and consistent team and understand that every game will be why you have a successful or unsuccessful season. The mentality must be that you can improve every week, in every training session and it’s what we are trying to do this season.
Pellegrini’s side look set to cement their status as a top-half team against a woeful Huddersfield outfit, but anything other than a win would certainly raise further questions about their mentality.
Once the Terriers are out of the way, West Ham still have to travel to Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur before the end of the season.
That being the case makes it even more crucial points are picked up from games against lesser opposition, and this afternoon would be a good start.
