West Ham United vice-chairman Karen Brady has revealed she hopes Declan Rice can become a long-term servant like current captain Mark Noble and club legend Billy Bonds.
The Hammers named a stand in the London Stadium after Bonds, who spent 27 years at the club as a player and manager, ahead of last weekend’s 2-0 win over Newcastle United.
Brady went online after the game to pour praise on the 72-year-old, but also on both goalscorers on the day, Noble and Rice.
You’ll know we have another of [Billy Bonds’] kind in Mark Noble, also our captain and also uncapped — hiss, boo — who is about to play his 400th game for the club he joined 19 years ago. How much we would like to keep Declan Rice for that long. He’s definitely the type.
Rice has burst onto the scene this season and is now hotly tipped to be included in Gareth Southgate’s next England squad after confirming his switching of allegiances from the Republic of Ireland last month.
It’s very likely there will be some notable suitors for his services in the near future, if not at the end of the season, that will require the resisting of temptation if he really is to become a one-club man.
