West Ham have held “further talks” with Celta Vigo over the signing of Maxi Gomez, report the Mail.
The nine-time capped Uruguay striker is seen as a direct replacement for Marko Arnautovic, who still looks likely to depart the club this month.
Valued at around £40million, Gomez is an exciting target, having scored eight goals and registered five assists in 14 appearances for struggling Celta this season.
The 22-year-old was the subject of interest in the Hammers last summer, but they felt the asking price was too high at the time.
Much is likely to depend on the cloudy future of Arnautovic, who wants to leave the London Stadium.
The Austrian is keen on joining Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG, but they are yet to improve on the £35million offered for his services.
Manuel Pellegrini will ultimately decide whether or not Arnautovic stays, which will hold the key to their interest in Gomez.
