Samir Nasri will have to earn a West Ham contract, according to Manuel Pellegrini.
The Frenchman has started training with the East Londoners, but no official deal has been completed as of yet.
Instead, Nasri will have to show West Ham that he is capable of working towards a standard of match fitness before they offer him a contract to play Premier League football once again.

The 31-year-old has most recently played for Turkish side Antalyaspor, before leaving in January of this year. Less than a month later, Nasri was banned for six months from football for breaching World Anti-Doping Agency guidelines.

The ban was extended by another 12 months on appeal by UEFA, although the figure was again reduced appeal from Nasri.
From the 1st of January, the former Manchester City will be free to sign for a club and compete once again.
Speaking in a pres conference, Pellegrini said:
I hope that from now until the end of the year he will be fit and if that is the case we will try to keep him here at West Ham.
Nasri would prove to be a useful attacking option for a team unable to count on the fitness of Manuel Lanzini and Jack Wilshere.
