Issa Diop upset with his own performances so far this season

West Ham United defender Issa Diop has revealed that he is frustrated with his own performances so far this season despite impressing fans and pundits, according to a report on Football London.

The summer signing has strengthened the Hammers’ defensive department but he believes that he needs to improve.

The centre-back is one of the key players for West Ham this season and has cemented his starting position under Manuel Pellegrini.

The 21-year-old did not start the first two league matches of the season but since then, he has been ever-present at the back. He said:

I’ve not played well. I need to improve and I hope I improve quickly.

Maybe people have said I have been impressive, but we [have] conceded too many goals. For me I know I can do more and I can play better.

His desire to get better is great news for Pellegrini and West Ham, who take on defending champions Manchester City at the London Stadium this weekend.

Diop is developing a healthy partnership at the back with fellow summer recruit Fabian Balbuena and they will be aiming to keep Sergio Aguero and co quiet in their next match.
