Obiang’s move to Sampdoria thrown into doubt

West Ham look set to keep hold of Pedro Obiang amid interest from Sampdoria, according to emerging reports from Italy.

The Spanish midfielder appeared to be set for a return to his former club, with Manuel Pellegrini planning to make significant changes to the personnel in his midfield options.

However, new reports from Di Marzio indicate that Pellegrini is, in fact, adamant that Obiang is in his plans ahead of the upcoming season, thereby throwing any potential transfer into doubt.

Obiang was reportedly intent on a return to Sampdoria but may be set to stay at the London Stadium, with Pellegrini reluctant to lose another of his midfielders following Cheikhou Kouyate’s move to Crystal Palace.

Alongside Pellegrini’s wish to keep Obiang, Secolo XIX (via Calciomercato) also report that a deal will be unlikely due to the distance between West Ham and Sampdoria regarding the player’s valuation.

The Hammers are said to be demanding €12 million for the Spaniard, and this price is believed to be beyond Sampdoria’s financial boundaries.
