Napoli linked with move for Angelo Ogbonna

West Ham defender Angelo Ogbonna has reportedly emerged as a surprise target for Napoli this summer.

Following the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti as the club’s new manager, it’s believed that Napoli are intent on adding extra defensive quality to the ranks ahead of next season.

Napoli finished as runners-up to Juventus in Serie A last season and will be keen to go one better in the upcoming campaign.

In doing so, it’s believed that the Italian giants have identified Chelsea’s David Luiz and West Ham’s Ogbonna as potential transfer targets, according to a report from the Mirror.

West Ham have added significant quality to their defensive options already this summer and it would seem somewhat unlikely that they’d sanction the sale of Ogbonna at this vital time for the club.

However, the prospect of joining one of Italy’s biggest clubs could be of interest to Ogbonna, with a move back to his homeland appearing to be a genuine possibility this summer.
