West Ham could move for Payet if his wage demands are lowered

West Ham would be keen to re-sign Dimitri Payet from Marseille, according to the Mirror, but only if the Frenchman agrees to lower his wage demands.

It was reported earlier on today that the Hammers will be given the opportunity to sign Payet back from Marseille this summer, with the player understood to be open to a return to the Premier League.

Payet left the London Stadium in somewhat acrimonious circumstances in the January transfer window last year, but it seems he would be willing to play for the club for a second time.

The experienced playmaker is understood to be on high wages at Marseille and unless he opts to take a pay-cut in his bid to return to West Ham, it seems a move will not be feasible.

Payet was a talismanic figure for West Ham under Slaven Bilic but after leaving the London club on difficult terms with the supporters, it’d be hard to see the East London faithful forgiving and forgetting the player’s past antics.
