West Ham could have the opportunity to sign long-term target William Carvalho for free this summer.
According to fresh claims from Portuguese news outlet O Jogo on Monday, the midfielder has submitted his request to have his contract at Sporting terminated.
The decision from Carvalho, along with other senior Sporting players such as Bruno Fernandes and Gelson Martins, comes following physical attacks from the club’s supporters at the training ground in recent times.
It’s believed that the Portugal international has demanded that Sporting agree to allow him to leave the club this summer, with his an immediate termination sought by Carvalho and many others.
West Ham have long been linked with a swoop for Carvalho and are reported to have scouted him throughout the course of last season.
The Hammers may be on the lookout for added quality in central midfield and with Carvalho potentially available this summer, a move could well be on the cards for Manuel Pellegrini’s men.
