Hammers star Lanzini named in Argentina squad for Russia
Hammers playmaker Manuel Lanzini has been named in Argentina’s final squad for the World Cup in Russia.
Manager Jorge Sampaoli named a 35-man squad earlier this month and has now trimmed it to the final 23. Inter Milans’s Mauro Icardi, who is the joint-top goal scorer in Serie A this season, is the biggest and most surprising omission.
Lanzini has made 27 appearances this season scoring 5 goals for the Hammers in what has been at times a disappointing season. The 25-year-old will look to feature as part of the Argentine starting XI at the World Cup in an attacking role in the midfield three.
Meanwhile, Manuel Pellegrini has been named as the Hammers manager for the upcoming season. West Ham have signed the Chilean on a 3-year-deal which has left fans very excited, given his Premier League winner’s medal.
The high-profile appointment may go some way to keeping key players such as Lanzini at the London Stadium.
