West Ham academy goalkeeper Rihards Matrevics has progressed well through the ranks at the club but it appears as if the youngsters time at the club will be coming to an end soon.
The 18-year-old was a regular in the club’s U18 side last season but has been unable to unseat Nathan Trott from his starting role for the U23 side and looks set to leave the club when his contract expires in June.
Matrevics is highly-regarded at youth international level, representing Latvia’s U19s on 13 occasions and will be an in-demand player in the summer, but Birmingham have made an effort to win the race for his signature by taking him on trial ahead of completing a transfer from West Ham either now or in the summer
After arriving on trial, Matrevics featured in an U23 game for Birmingham against Huddersfield in a bid to earn a move.
Matrevics joined the club in September 2015 but those within West Ham have faith that Nathan Trott can make the jump to the first-team picture in the near future, meaning the Latvian will be moved on.
