- Jarrod Bowen would love to make England’s World Cup squad this summer
- The captain says they have seven cup finals left in the Premier League
- West Ham return to action against Leeds United in the FA Cup on Sunday
West Ham United return to their season this weekend, hosting Leeds United in the FA Cup quarter finals. A number of Hammers have been away with their nation’s in the past week and a half, including the team’s captain, Jarrod Bowen.
Bowen has been in great form for West Ham this season, with the highest number of goal involvements of any Englishman in the Premier League. Unfortunately, the 29-year-old’s place in Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup place is not assured.
The winger tried hard to convince the England boss this week, Bowen acknowledged he just has to keep on performing to force his way in, when talking to Hayters TV.
“I think there’s always a chance to impress,” he said. “Let’s not get it wrong, playing well at club level gets you here in the first place.
“My mindset going back to the club now is keeping my team in the Premier League and to keep playing well.
“That’s all I can do without having [the World Cup] at the front of my mind. I think you have to put it in the back of your mind because you have to let the club football take care of itself.”
Eight cup finals to come for West Ham
Bowen has been so important for the West Ham this season, but there is a lot more work to do if the team want to achieve their goals this year.
The 29-year-old spoke of how the final games are cup finals, and also how he’d love to lead his Irons out under the arches of Wembley.
“We’ve got the chance for an FA Cup semi-final,” he added. “I’ve got a chance to come here (Wembley) and lead them out, which would be such a special thing for me.
“And then make no mistake, the next seven games, they’re cup finals as well. So, there’s no hiding away from the situation.
”I go back there and keep trying to step up and keep trying to keep my club in the Premier League.”
