West Ham are claimed to be one of three Premier League clubs willing to make a move to sign Manchester United defender Chris Smalling.
According to a report from the Daily Star today, United boss Jose Mourinho is keen on offloading the England international this summer. This has prompted the likes of the Hammers, Everton and Crystal Palace to express an interest in signing him.
Smalling had fallen somewhat out of favour in Mourinho’s plans throughout the course of the 2016/17 season, and it’s not looking likely that he’ll have a big part to play in the coming campaign.
United are close to officially signing Benfica centre back Victor Lindelof for a fee upwards of £30m, and this is set to spell the end of Smalling’s tenure at Old Trafford.
West Ham are in need to some defensive reinforcement this summer, with the likes of José Fonte failing to convince since arriving at the London Stadium.
