Former Hammer says there’s no way back for Payet

Speaking on Radio 5 Live, as reported by the Express, Upson defended the approach West Ham have taken with Payet.

The club have been very public in what he’s said and how he conducted himself, saying he didn’t want to play for the club anymore. That is a really extreme way to go as a player. There are instances where players or the club may want something different.

The Hammers have not shied away from the situation and manager, Slaven Bilic made it very clear during his press conferences what is happening with the French international.

Upson continued by admitting Payet has put himself in a difficult situation.

But to come out with one during the contract, you’re putting yourself in such a difficult position to go back and play.

And especially for a club like West Ham that has such a loyal following.

I don’t see any way back for him in the first team.

Payet has been forced to train with the Hammers’ U23s as he looks to find a suitable move away from the London Stadium.

It had been reported that the club will discuss a move with his former side, Marseille, but will not lose their talisman on the cheap.

Payet had been linked with a big-money move to China, after reportedly being offered over £500,000 a week to play in the Chinese Super League.
