West Ham are set to make a late move for Moritz Leitner, who is set for a move to Italian side Lazio, according to Goal.
The report says that a deal has been agreed with Borussia Dortmund and that Leitner is due in Italy for a medical ahead of the move to Lazio.
Borussia Dortmund chief Michael Zorc has confirmed that they are in talks to sell Leitner.
“We are in concrete talks – without being able to say whether a transfer will be realised in the end,” said Zorc.
He is now fully expected to complete his move to the Serie A club, crushing West Ham’s hopes of signing the talented midfielder. Championship side Reading are also said to be interested.
However, despite the deal almost being a complete, West Ham are still trying to make something happen and snatch him from Lazio’s clutches.
They will be hoping that the allure of Premier League and Europa League football will be enough to persuade Leitner to reject the Italian side and join Slaven Bilic and his men.
It does, however, look unlikely at present and Lazio are still expected to conclude the signing in the coming days.
