West Ham hijack Everton move for Idrissa Gueye

West Ham are believed to have launched an eleventh hour bid to hijack Everton’s move for Aston Villa midfielder Idrissa Gueye, claim the Essex Chronicle.

Everton had reportedly triggered the £7.1m release clause in Gueye’s contract with Aston Villa which became active following their relegation last season, and a deal was progressing nicely.

However, the Hammers have made their interest known and they too are ready and willing to meet his release clause and are eager to hold talks with the player before he decides on a move.

Slaven Bilic is believed to be looking at keeping Havard Nordtveit at centre-back this season – where the defensive midfielder spent most of his time playing for Borussia Monchengladbach last season, and wants to bring in another midfielder.

The 26-year-old joined the midlands club from Lille last summer after making 135 appearances for the French side and went on to make 35 appearances for the Villains last season.

Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo has confirmed that he expects Gueye to complete a move to Goodison Park in the near future, but the Hammers remain hopeful of a late swoop.
