According to The Mirror, West Ham are interested in £18m-rated Torino defender Nikola Maksimovic.
The report says that Chelsea are also keen on the defender, which means that the Hammers will have fierce competition for his signature if they were both to make a move.
The 24-year-old defender was superb for Torino last season and won over many admirers with his commanding displays at the back for the Serie A side. He mainly operates as a central defender, but he has the versatility to play in holding midfield.
Chelsea are currently chasing Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, who is valued at £45m, but will turn to Maksimovic if they fail in their bid for the French defender.
It was confirmed earlier this month that West Ham had a large bid turned down for Maksimovic in recent times, and would need to up their offer if they wish to sign him. Manchester United, Manchester City and Tottenham have all also been linked.
West Ham will be hoping Chelsea land Koulibaly, as it would give them an enhances chance of signing Maksimovic.
Slaven Bilic will look to bolster his defensive options this summer after selling James Tomkins to Crystal Palace.
