Southampton consider bid for Darren Randolph

Southampton are considering a swoop for West Ham goalkeeper Darren Randolph, according to the Daily Echo.

The report says that the club are very keen on bringing in an experienced goalkeeper to play back-up to Fraser Forster this season, with Paulo Gazzaniga the only other ‘keeper in the squad.

Maarten Stekelenburg left after his loan expired and Kelvin Davis retired, leaving Southampton with just two senior shot-stoppers. Claude Puel wants to amend this as soon as possible, with Randolph thought to be one of the names under consideration.

The Hammers signed Randolph on a free transfer last summer following his release from Championship side Birmingham City and the 29-year-old impressed when called upon, making 15 appearances in all competitions keeping six clean sheets in the process.

His strong displays between the sticks for West Ham earned him a deserved call-up into the Republic of Ireland national side where he has re-established himself as the No.1 as they entered Euro 2016. Randolph has been a key performer as Ireland have progressed to the last 16 where they take on Dimitri Payet and France this afternoon.

It’s unlikely the Hammers would entertain offers for Randolph this summer after he proved he is a more than capable deputy to Adrian should he be called upon.
