West Ham received a major transfer boost as Atletico Madrid have confirmed they will not be signing AC Milan striker Carlos Bacca this summer.
The Hammers have been in pursuit of Bacca for several weeks and have had a £25.6m bid accepted by AC Milan for their star striker.
Bacca and his representatives held talks with West Ham over a move, and were close to an agreement over personal terms but never found a middle ground.
West Ham’s offer remains on the table: a four-year deal worth £65,000-a-week after tax, plus performance-based bonuses – a similar deal to the one Dimitri Payet signed earlier this year to become the club’s highest-paid player.
The 29-year-old Colombia international has put this offer to one side but it remains under consideration as he awaits offers from Champions League clubs as he wishes to play in club football’s elite competition.
There has been talk of a move from Atletico Madrid, but club president Enrique Cerezo has confirmed his side will not sign Bacca this summer.
Bacca? He’s a very good striker, but we will not buy him. And we know he is not in our plans. Carlos Bacca will not come to Atletico Madrid.
Arsenal have also been linked in recent times but West Ham remain the best – and only – offer on the table for Carlos Bacca.
AC Milan are hopeful of signing Villarreal defender Mateo Musacchio and Udinese midfielder Piotr Zielinski but can’t complete the moves until they free up some funds which will only happen once Carlos Bacca is sold.
Both West Ham and Milan are pushing for a definitive answer from Bacca this week. Milan want the West Ham sale to go through as it’s the best offer they have for the striker.
We should find out in the next few days whether West Ham have completed a deal for Carlos Bacca.
