Manchester City join race for Oxford

According to the Daily Star, Manchester City have joined Manchester United in the race to sign West Ham defender Reece Oxford.

The report says that scouts from Manchester City, United and Tottenham all watched Oxford as he featured for England’s under-19 team on Friday night.

The 17-year-old rose to prominence last season after he made his senior debut for West Ham at just 16-years-old against Arsenal at the beginning of the season. Oxford starred in holding midfield during the match as West Ham snatched a win at The Emirates and has been highly rated ever since.

Oxford has been stalling in contract negotiations with West Ham, and is thought to be considering offers from other teams as he weighs up his options this summer.

West Ham have already rejected a bid of £10m from Red Bull Leipzig for the midfielder/defender, as they value the 17-year-old at £15m. This means that any interested clubs will have to stump up that price to land their target.
