West Ham make approach for Swansea striker Gomis

West Ham have made an approach to sign Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis this summer, according to Get French Football News.

The 30-year-old striker joined Swansea in the summer of 2014 on a free transfer from Lyon, but has failed to impress and scored just seven times in 35 appearances last term.

Gomis was expected to make a return to Ligue 1 this summer with Marseille who are looking to replace Michy Batshuayi after he rejected a move to the Hammers in favour of a £33m switch to Chelsea earlier in the transfer window.

The Frenchman has not travelled with Swansea’s squad for their pre-season tour of the USA, and Marseille had wanted to take Gomis on an initial season-long loan, claim the Daily Mail, but wanted Swansea to pay 70% of his wages during the duration of the loan.

West Ham tried, and failed, to sign Gomis before he joined Swansea but are now also considering a loan move for the striker who is set to leave the Liberty Stadium before the start of the season.

The Hammers expect one of, if not both of Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho to leave the club this summer, with Lazio and Sunderland leading the respective races to sign them. Should they both leave, West Ham only currently have Andy Carroll on their books as a senior striker and Gomis could be a more than useful backup option.
