West Ham look set to miss out on Lyon defender Rafael da Silva this summer after his agent confirmed his client would remain with the club next season.
Speaking with journalist Emre Sarigul, Rafael’s agent Cassiano Pereira revealed his client is happy at Lyon and will not be making a summer move.
Rafael is happy at Lyon and will stay at the club next season.
Back in May West Ham were linked with a move for the Brazilian international defender who only joined the Ligue 1 club last summer from Manchester United in a deal worth £2.5m.
The 24-year-old has enjoyed a decent first season in France’s top tier, scoring once and assisting twice in 27 appearances for Lyon and is still under contract for another three years.
West Ham struggled for a regular right-back last season with Carl Jenkinson, James Tomkins and Sam Byram all missing significant time through injury, which resulted in Michail Antonio becoming a makeshift fullback.
Slaven Bilic has tried to rectify this issue of late but has seen two key targets move else where, with Thomas Meunier and Gregory van der Wiel penning deals with Paris Saint-Germain and Fenerbahce respectively.
