The Dutch international defender was released by PSG this summer following four successful seasons with the Ligue 1 champions after a move from Ajax in 2012. Fenerbahce confirmed earlier this week they were in talks to sign the right-back.
“Fenerbahce have opened negotiations with Gregory van der Wiel over a transfer,” a statement said on the club’s official website.
“The Dutch player is expected to arrive in Istanbul on July 4 to complete the deal.”
West Ham were one of many clubs to make a contract offer to the 28-year-old who has opted for Turkish football over the Premier League.
Van der Wiel isn’t the only right-back the Hammers have missed out on as Club Brugge and Belgium star Thomas Meunier has joined PSG on a four-year deal.

Meunier confirmed earlier this week he had offers from several clubs, including West Ham but has opted to join the French giants as van der Wiel’s replacement and competition for Serge Aurier.
