West Ham have been caught off-guard in the chase for Juventus striker Simone Zaza as Wolfsburg have lodged a €28m bid to sign the player this summer.
According to reports in Italy, the Bundesliga club have jumped ahead of West Ham in the race for Zaza who has been heavily linked with a move from Serie A during this transfer window.
Zaza was used as Juventus’ fourth-choice striker last season behind the likes of Paulo Dybala, Mario Mandzukic and Alvaro Morata, who has recent rejoined Real Madrid, and Zaza was limited to just five starts in Serie A last season, making 19 appearances in total and scoring just five times.

Juventus will allow Zaza to leave the club once they find a replacement for Alvaro Morata, which seems a long way away but that has not deterred clubs from lining up moves for the Italian international.
Wolfsburg have offered €25m up front for Zaza with another €3m in add-ons if he scores an undisclosed amount of goals for the club.
Having been dealt the crushing blow that Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi will be joining Chelsea this summer, the Hammers have made Zaza one of their top targets but face a real battle for his signature.
