Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is hoping to beat Chelsea to the signing of West Ham star Dimitri Payet this summer.
According to Spanish source Don Balon, the former Barcelona manager is looking to a marquee signing to kick-off his reign at the Etihad Stadium and has identified the French playmaker as just the man to do so.
Payet starred for France during their opening game at Euro 2016, and scored a 25-yard screamer in the 89th minute to secure a 2-1 victory for the hosts who top Group A.

It’s believed the Hammers have absolutely no intention to sell their star man this summer who they value at around £60m, but the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City both have the financial capability to sign the player.
The former Marseille man joined the Hammers last summer for a fee of around £10.5m and his fine form this past season was rewarded with a new deal worth £120,000-a-week until the summer of 2021.
At 29, spending a fee that high on someone seemingly so old wouldn’t be the wisest piece of business for a club as he would have a low sell-on value, but then again, a player of Payet’s quality is hard to find.
