With another draw recently to Aston Villa, West Ham will really be wanting a win. The Hammers face Southampton on the 28th of December and we’ve asked Read Southampton editor Luke Osman what he thinks is going to happen. It may be worth adding that the interview was conducted before Southampton’s incredible 4-0 victory over Arsenal last night.
What do you think of Southampton so far this season?
It’s been pretty underwhelming so far. We started off poorly, had a very good run of form in which we beat Chelsea away from home, but since the international break it’s fallen apart. We’re without a win in six and it’s not looking too good.
Who’s your danger man?
Sadio Mane. Although he is not enjoying his best run of form, he’s still the most dangerous player in our squad and still has the ability to turn a game on its head almost on his own.
Team Prediction?
Stekelenburg; Cedric, Fonte, Van Dijk, Bertrand; Clasie, Wanyama, Davis; Mane, Pelle, Tadic.
Score prediction?
It’ll be an interesting one. I’m going to go for 1-1, goals from Mane and Antonio for you.
Who’s a better manager Bilic or Koeman?
They’re both very different managers, but I’d have to say Koeman. He’s been everywhere and has enjoyed success with us for a longer period of time, despite doing his job with one hand tied behind his back due to the lack of financial backing at the club. However, I have no doubt that Bilic will grow to be as good, if not better.
What player are you most worried about?
If he’s fit, Manuel Lanzini. I’ve watched him on several occasions this season and he has it all; pace, precision and an eye for goal.
Where do you think you will finish?
I think we’ll finish mid-table. I’d be happy with a top half finish, but see us finishing around 13th place. Other teams have strengthened so well whereas we’ve only replaced our departing players, as opposed to actually improving ourselves.
