Hammers set price for striker amid Newcastle interest

West Ham have slapped an £18million price tag on striker andy Carroll amid apparent interest from Newcastle United.

According to Gary Jacob of The Times (£), Carroll’s former club are interested in bringing him back to the North East, and West Ham will look to get back pretty much what they paid Liverpool if they did let the striker leave.

According to Jacob, the Hammers are aware that Carroll’s lack of form and injury record may mean that his value has depreciated since they signed him, but with transfer fees continuing to rise as money floods into the game, they think recapturing what they paid is a fair deal in today’s market.

The England striker’s injury history is well publicised, and he missed the recent draw with Swansea with a slight niggle, but he is set to return for the Boxing Day matchup with Aston Villa.

According to Jacob’s report, La Liga side Sevilla enquired about taking Carroll on loan, but that interest was rejected by the Hammers.
