Hammers set to train on Christmas Day

West Ham are set to train on Christmas Day as they look to stay ahead of the game for their upcoming festive schedule.

Aaron Cresswell revealed how he thought the training session might well give them a better chance of navigating the club’s games over the next 10 days.

Speaking about the session, Cresswell said (quotes via London 24):

We are going to prepare ourselves the best we can for the fixtures we’ve got coming up over the next ten days or so. It’s hard when you’ve got to play three games in seven days, but we won’t use that as an excuse. We’re going to be prepared and ready for those three games. We’ve got to be professional and it’s part and parcel of the job and we’ve just got to get on with it.

Cresswell did make it clear that a Christmas Day training session isn’t uncommon, however, although there wasn’t one last year under Sam Allardyce.

To be fair, I’ve always trained on Christmas Day every year apart from last year, and we’ll get on with it and prepare as best we can.

The Hammers take on Villa on Boxing Day, Southampton on December 28th and then Liverpool on January 2nd – so it’s no easy three games.

Cresswell knows this, however, and appears to be focused ahead of the fixtures.

You can’t go into any game thinking it’s going to be an easy three points, even if you’re one of the top teams. The league has been crazy this year and you can see anyone can beat anyone. We’re fully aware that it’s not going to be an easy ride so we’re going to prepare for Villa and do the best we can.

West Ham currently sit eighth in the league, so a solid Christmas period could help solidify their push for European football.

Whether a training session on Christmas Day this year will make a difference remains to be seen.
