Michail Antonio says he is ready to step up to plate and help his West Ham side overcome their current injury woes.
With Manuel Lanzini and Victor Moses joining Dimitri Payet, Diafra Sakho and Enner Valencia on the shelf, Hammers’ boss Slaven Bilic has found himself struggling for numbers over the busy festive period, but Antonio hopes that he’ll now be given a chance to impress.
The 25-year-old joined West Ham from Nottingham Forest in the summer after the London club had a £7million bid accepted. However, he’s only made three substitute appearances in the Premier League so far, the latest of which came at the weekend when he replaced the injured Moses.

Antonio found himself well down the Hammers’ pecking order, but with the sheer number of absentees, coupled with a busy period of games, it’s all but certain that the winger will get the chance to prove himself if the coming weeks.
Speaking to Dave Evans of London24, Antonio says he is ready to step up.
I believe in my ability and when I get the opportunity I’ll take it. I’ve come on and done well against Manchester United, now things are only getting better. We have more injuries, so my chances are increasing. With the injuries, I am hoping [to play more]. Obviously it depends on what the manager things will work on the day. If he decides to give me that opportunity then great, if he doesn’t I’ll still work hard and be patient. I’ve still got four years on my contact, but hopefully he decides to give it to me sooner rather than later.
