Slaven Bilic outlines West Ham’s January plans

West Ham manager Slaven Bilic says that his club will not panic buy in January, despite losing key members of his squad to injuries.

Both Dimitri Payet and Diafra Sakho are facing long spells out of the side, while Enner Valencia is also set to miss a few more games, but Bilic says that West Ham won’t panic to replace them, and that losing players through injury will not impact the club’s January transfer plan.

Writing in his Evening Standard column, Bilic said:

We are not going to panic buy next month after losing Diafra Sakho for what could be up to eight weeks. We will continue to assess what we do over the coming weeks. But don’t expect any sudden changes in our transfer spending as we are calm about the situation.

However, the Croatian did admit that while other clubs, such as Arsenal, are experiencing a larger proportion of injuries, he does feel that the absentees from his team are hurting the Hammers, as they are key attacking players.

In terms of the quantity of injuries, we are not struggling to anywhere near the level of some other teams. But the ones we do have out are all attacking players, very influential to the way we play.

West Ham travel to Old Trafford to face Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United and it looks like England centre-forward Andy Carroll will be asked to lead the line.
