West Ham striker target snubs Premier League for Serie A

It is being reported by football-italia.com that West Ham target Dimitar Berbatov will probably not be returning to England this summer as he has an offer on the table from Italian club Sampdoria. The Bulgarian star will give the club an answer ‘by Saturday’ according to sources and he is widely expected to accept the offer.

This comes as a slight blow to West Ham as they were reportedly in for the 34-year old and saw him as an excellent short-term replacement for Enner Valencia, who is ruled out until Christmas after picking up an injury in the Europa League.

Berbatov had a good two-year spell for AS Monaco as he bagged 13 goals in 38 league games, and he would have offered real goal-scoring ability to the West Ham front-line, in addition to an excellent amount of experience. He was released by Monaco as he doesn’t fit their new transfer policy.

Sampdoria’s gain could be West Ham’s loss, however there are still a lot of striking options out there and Slaven Bilic will want to move quickly in the transfer market.
