David Sullivan has said he will probably sell his West Ham stake once the club return to the Premier League. The former joint chairman has stepped away from the day-to-day running of the club but remains a significant shareholder.
Sullivan told Hammers News he had “taken a back seat” and would now watch matches as a supporter. He added that selling his holding would require careful consideration.
West Ham ownership could change after promotion
Sullivan stepped down as a director in June, although his family continues to be represented within the club’s holding company. He currently owns approximately 38.8% of West Ham.
Daniel Kretinsky is expected to become the largest individual shareholder once his purchase of additional shares from the Gold family receives the required approval. The deal would increase his holding to about 43%.
ReadWestHam recently reported that West Ham Women investment talks had stalled against the backdrop of uncertainty over the club’s ownership. Sullivan’s latest comments provide a clearer indication of how his own position could develop.
A sale does not appear imminent. Sullivan linked any decision to West Ham returning to the Premier League, leaving the timing dependent on Nuno Espirito Santo’s attempts to secure promotion.
His comments could also strengthen expectations that Kretinsky will eventually take greater control. The Czech businessman is already increasing his influence after agreeing to acquire part of the Gold family’s shareholding.
West Ham ownership therefore remains in transition. Sullivan still has a major financial interest in the club, but his reduced involvement and willingness to consider a future sale point towards another possible change after promotion.
