West Ham United are exploring a free transfer move for Adam Webster as they assess defensive options ahead of the Championship season.
The 31-year-old centre-back is available after leaving Brighton & Hove Albion at the end of his contract. The Sun reports that West Ham are considering Webster among possible low-cost reinforcements.
Webster spent seven years with Brighton but did not play last season after suffering an ACL injury. He is still continuing his rehabilitation with the Seagulls, despite not being offered a new deal.
Webster Fitness Question Shapes West Ham Decision
West Ham’s interest makes sense in a market where the club need defensive cover without putting more pressure on a post-relegation budget.
ReadWestHam has already looked at Keiber Lamadrid completing his permanent West Ham transfer, and Webster now sits in a very different part of the same rebuild picture.
Jean-Clair Todibo and Konstantinos Mavropanos are both expected to look for moves away, leaving the Hammers with a clear need for experienced centre-back depth.
The key issue is risk.
Webster has Premier League pedigree, knows English football and would arrive without a transfer fee. But a year out with a serious knee injury means any deal would need careful medical checks and a sensible wage structure.
For West Ham, this is not a marquee move.
It is a pragmatic rebuild option: an experienced defender, available now, but only sensible if the fitness evidence is strong enough.
