West Ham bosses Championship record gives reason to be optimistic for Hammers fans

West Ham United are attempting to prepare for life in the Championship, after 14 years in the Premier League.

The Hammers relegation has been made all that harder with the fact the team have to raise £150 million this summer. This in turn means at least five players will leave West Ham in the window, and also means that Nuno Espirito Santo can barely make his recruitment plans until sales have been made at the London Stadium.

It’s not just in the playing squad where there is change this summer, with the entire recruitment department making changes alongside in the boardroom, as the club looks to come out of this situation better than they entered it.

On positive that West Ham can take going forward, is Nuno’s Championship record.

When in charge of Wolverhampton Wanderers, the Portuguese manager took the midlands side up at the first time of asking, and did so in some style.

In 2017/18, Nuno guided Wolves to the Championship title, winning 30 games in the process and getting the job done with four games to spare, before confirming the title two matches later.

That season, his team lost just seven games on their way back to the Premier League.

Whilst West Ham remain a long way off having a team that matches that of Wolves that season but it gives Hammers fans a reason to be optimistic. If the team can shift the numbers needed, sooner rather than later, then Nuno looks like the right man to lead them forward this season.

matchday.
