  • Tottenham Hotspur lost 2-1 on Tuesday night
  • West Ham United remain in the relegation zone
  • Jamie Redknapp states that Spurs are “sleepwalking to relegation” ahead of final day

After giving Spurs a critical assessment following their latest loss, former Tottenham Hotspur ace Jamie Redknapp insinuates West Ham United still has a real chance of escaping relegation.

On Tuesday night, Spurs headed to Stamford Bridge knowing that a point against Chelsea would have practically ensured both their Premier League safety and West Ham’s relegation to the Championship. Rather, a 2-1 loss has put the relegation fight on the verge of a thrilling final day.

Although Nuno Espirito Santo’s side still needs a significant favour elsewhere, the outcome keeps West Ham’s chances of survival alive. In addition to needing to defeat Leeds United at the London Stadium, the Hammers also need Everton to win away at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Jamie Redknapp states that Spurs are “sleepwalking to relegation” as West Ham have a final-day hope

After Spurs’ loss, Redknapp did not hold back while criticising his former club on Sky Sports, implying that their performances this season had put relegation in jeopardy.

The pundit insisted that Spurs’ home form has been “horrendous” and that they had been “sleepwalking to relegation” for most of the season, lacking both talent and spirit when it counted most.

“I said it earlier in the season: they are sleepwalking to relegation,” Redknapp said during Sky Sports’ post-match coverage.

“The only thing that has saved them is that they’ve had a couple of good results. When I say good, they beat Wolves and Aston Villa, who had seven players out.

“Now they have to find a way to win a game at home. Their home form has been so bad this season; it’s been horrendous all year.

“They’ve not had any quality, no character to win a football match. Now they have to find a way to beat Everton.

“David Moyes will be fuming after the weekend, and he’ll be going there thinking, ‘We’ve got to get something out of this game.’ I’d rather be playing Leeds at home than Everton.

Even though West Ham has no control over the situation, Tottenham’s loss to Chelsea has given supporters one last cause for optimism. Redknapp also called Spurs’ whole performance this season “absolutely diabolical” as they enter the last weekend under tremendous pressure.

“It’s been absolutely diabolical, and if they do get relegated, it’s nothing more than they deserve because they’ve been awful all season,” he added.

West Ham’s equation is straightforward: beat Leeds and hope former Hammers boss David Moyes can deliver one last favour on Sunday.
