West Ham forward has three games to step or his Premier League dream will be over: Opinion

West Ham United have three games to save their Premier League status. The Hammers loss to Brentford last week saw them drop into the bottom three as Tottenham Hotspur took the initiative. A point adrift, the Hammers now have to dig deep to get out of their current predicament.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men will take on Arsenal this weekend, before a trip to Newcastle United and finally meeting Leeds United at the London Stadium. It all comes down to this and West Ham need all hands on deck to put 100% of the pressure on Spurs.

One player that has to find his shooting boots is that of Valentin Castellanos. The Argentinian is Nuno’s number one choice at striker, but the 27-year-old continually misses chances. Whilst Castellanos gives his all, effort is the minimum the Hammers need right now.

Castellanos joined West Ham in January as part of Nuno’s recruitment drive to turn things around at the club. For all intensive purposes, the 27-year-old has helped in more ways than one, and the Hammers now have a chance to save themselves.

Unfortunately, he has still fallen short of the mark. Castellanos has netted five goals in his 19 appearances, four in the Premier League, but it should be so much more. In the games with Crystal Palace, AFC Bournemouth and Brentford, the Argentinian missed guilt edge chances in matches that could have resulted in serious points.

Now, with three games to go, Castellanos has to do more than just run his socks off. Getting the first goal will be crucial if West Ham to have a chance and that chance will likely fall to him.

Three games left for West Ham

The Irons are running out of time, there is no sugar coating it. With title-chasing Arsenal up next, it’s not getting easier. You can’t have passengers in a relegation scrap and that is why Castellanos has to find the net now, not later, no matter the opponent.

Newcastle and Leeds will follow but unless their is an improved performance, it should not be the Argentinian leading the line.

Castellanos has spoken several times about how it is his dream to play in the Premier League, but it could no be over before it’s truly started.
